I heard about Wheatbaker last year. My friend lives close to the hotel and would always talk about the kinds of cars that drive in and all sorts. Fast forward to this year. April was my besties birthday and she was looking for something outdoor and different for lunch with a few friends. Coincidentally, I was at my friend’s office in Lekki and came across pictures of the pool at the Wheatbaker. The water was literally calling my name and with the heat in Nigeria, you probably understand what I mean. I quickly did some research (shout out to Google, my friend) and suggested to my bestie that we check out the Wheatbaker restaurant, The Grillroom, as a potential venue for her birthday lunch. Bestie bought my idea so we went over and the environment was really cool and serene. There isn’t ample parking though, especially considering the amount of people that visit for the food. The Grillroom also offers a daily buffet, 6900 naira per head and not inclusive of drinks.
On the said day, we all gathered by the pool area at The Grillroom (which also has a shed so the sun isn’t over your head). I had Salmon with olives as a starter, and it was fab! I really love Salmon with my whole heart as it’s tasty and very healthy for hair, skin and nails. My main course was spaghetti and some sauce I can’t remember with barbeque chicken. For dessert, we had an assortment of cakes including a creamy cheesecake. All the cakes were so creamy and nice. I so wished I could take some home. By the time we were done, we were so stuffed!
From time to time the waiters would pass by and ask if we were okay. The hospitality was excellent, and the food was wonderful. Prices are just okay. Chapman, for example, cost 2000 naira and non-alcoholic cocktails go for the same price too. I really wish I could attach pictures, but the screen of my phone got smashed and is yet to be fixed.
The Grillroom is somewhere you can go to with friends, go on a date, have a get together or if you want to just forget about the hustle of Lagos and give yourself a treat. I did enquire about the rooms though, and I must say they are quite pricey.
PS - Just incase you are looking for the Wheatbaker Hotel, it doesn’t have a big signboard or anything. It’s just a burnt red building with flying flags in the front of the building.
