Southern Sun is a modern and stylish hotel located in one of the busiest parts of Ikoyi. The hotel offers buffet brunch on Sunday's at the price of 8000 naira per adult and reduced pricing for kids (bottomless champagne and juices included). This review is about my experience at the brunch.

My sister and I were celebrating our new job offers so we decided to take the family out to brunch at Southern Sun. We got there about 1:00pm (leaving enough time to feast properly as the buffet closes by 4:00pm). Free and ample parking was available within the gated hotel premises. Upon entering the hotel, we were greeted by courteous staff who ushered us into the restaurant. Once in the restaurant, another staff immediately led us to our table for 12. There was no wait time as the restaurant wasn't filled to capacity, but there were a good number of people there.

As we were seated, two baskets containing assorted bread were placed on the table. A waitress then stopped by with a tray containing glasses of champagne and juices (apple, orange and pineapple).

The first thing I noticed about this buffet was the wide array of intercontinental and Nigerian dishes. I started off with a bowl of goat meat pepper soup (very delicious), shrimps, baked potatoes, a croissant and a piece of curry chicken.

As you can imagine, I was pretty much full after my first plate, but I had to try a little of everything else! So I went for the pancakes and a freshly made omelet (nom nom nom).

There were also Nigerian dishes including pounded yam & amala, and a nice assortment of soups (oha, ogbono, etc) all of which looked really appetizing, but I decided to try out the stewed snails, rice and plantain. I also tried the potato wedges, chips, and braised beef, all of which I found to be a little dry.
And then desserts!! Very impressive assortment as well! I tried a little of the chin-chin, puff-puff (very nice), creme brule, chocolate cake coconut cake, etc, and they all tasted really good.
And then there was Yoginos yoghurt! I thought the name was funny...

I'm not really into buffets because I feel like I never get my moneys worth. But this buffet was impressive and had a superb assortment of any and everything you could possibly want to eat! The staff were friendly and there was bottomless champagne & juices! In addition, it's a very chill environment at the restaurant and can comfortably accomodate a party of 2 as well as a party of 12!. However, I wouldn't recommend this buffet to non-foodies (especially at 8000 naira/adult!).

Special shout out to my family members for making this experience a memorable one. I love you all (present & absent in the pic) and I hope we get to go to more places together. :)

My wonderful family!
