Industry night occurs every Wednesday at Oriental Hotel. The event usually features Nigerian artists and promotes upcoming shows/events. The best part about this event is that it’s FREE! But you have to dress appropriately to get in. Nothing too flashy though, but at least look presentable. I wore a maxi dress with very comfy slippers. :)
I attended the Industry night event that was hosted by Mavin Records on July 4th. I got to Oriental Hotel about 11:30pm and it was very difficult to find parking. I couldn't park in the hotel lot as it was full to capacity so I was directed to a secondary parking lot. It took about 15 minutes to eventually park my car. Getting into the hotel and locating the event hall wasn't too difficult. I just followed the loud music! I passed through "security" but they didn't bother to search me. I got into the event hall and it was very full. I felt like I was in a club (upstairs of Likwid to be precise), as I had to push through crowds and crowds of people to locate my friends.
At Industry Night you have the option to get a table, buy drinks, or just chill. Seats are available but most people just ended up standing. There were a couple of performances by upcoming artists before the Mavin crew started performing, but I was too busy checking out the interior decor of the hall and looking for possible exits(in case of a fire/other emergency).
Around 12:15pm, Tiwa Savage got on stage and performed...
Tiwa's performance was quite nice. She sang a couple of her songs and then did a little bit of praise and worship. There were a few technical difficulties with the microphones but the technicians worked promptly to resolve the issue. Then, Wande Coal performed and the crowd went craaaaazyyyyyyyy! Everyone stood up and seemed to know the lyrics to all the songs he performed. I was amazed! My favorite was "

Then Dr. Sid performed a bunch of songs as well including my favorite at the moment,

At some point Tiwa came back on stage but Prince was the last to perform before I left. "
Banana" and "
Amarachi" really rocked the crowd!

Overall it was a fun event. There were a bunch of other stars there including Omawunmi, Weird MC, and others whose names I don't know. I've heard that every Industry Night event is different so I'd recommend you go if you like the artists that will be performing. And probably go early too if you don't have the patience to deal with the parking situation and want a good space with your friends. But I had an amazing time! :)
